Mr. Nielson and I worked in our office today.
Cleaning, clearing, budgeting, rearranging, and organizing.
Nicholas played with odds and ends {staplers, hole punchers, paperclips, cardboard boxes,
you know stuff like that} around the office while eating cherry juju lip gummies.
As I was clearing off my desk I found a box.
All of a sudden, I recognized the box.
This box sat in the corner of my hospital room all those months.
Inside the box I found hundreds of sweet cards from people all over the world.
I remembered back to the time in my hospital room during dressing changes
or horrible days when I needed a little pick me up, my mom or Mr. Nielson {or my nurse-or anyone for that matter} would pull out a note from the
box and read it out loud to keep me going.

Today after finding the cards, I read a few out loud, and some struck deep in my heart.
Then I broke down and cried.
They meant so much to me, and most of them from strangers.
Strangers! I am so blessed and grateful, they pulled me through such hard times.
Hopefully I can do the same for someone else in their time of need.

Hello, my name is Nicholas

Today Mr. Nielson and my only child {or so he wishes} Nicholas, went to the bank.
Upon arriving at the bank my only child {or so he wishes}
was bombarded with wonderful older ladies offering treats and smiles of all kinds.
He kindly-{kind of} accepted the treats and then sat down at an
empty desk near the window where a 1980's typewriter sat.
Excited, he timidly pushed a few buttons then looked around to see who was watching.

Nicholas, {who wishes he was an only child, remember?}
hates undue attention-especially from strangers.
He was concerned one of the little old bank ladies would tell him to please stop.

Just then a little old bank lady came over to tell him not to stop,
but to encourage him to continue on. {It was pretty cute}
They even brought over a few more smarties and a ream of paper.
Sometimes its nice to be an only-child.
{or so he wishes}

Summer images/plastic plans

Today I visited with Dr J. He is my plastic surgeon and is pretty much a genius.
We discussed ways to fix my burned nose and lips. Since they were burned so severely, it restricts my breathing-It is ruff and annoying.
I am so amazed at what Dr. J has proposed to do.

I don't want to go through more surgery, recovery and all that jazz.
I should be used to it by now, but it is still hard and frustrating.

We decided that after I am done nursing peanut I will begin the process. Oh man.
Dr. J is also going to utilize my tummy skin (think hunchie) to use after lil peanut is born.
The skin will then go to cover the burned parts on my stomach. No more burned tummy!!!
Pretty amazing.
I am not sure if I have told you the plan yet or not, but I there it is in a nut shell.
I will keep you posted.

{I am going to ask Dr. J if he will guest blog here and explain the plan.
I want you to understand becuase it is amazing what our bodies can do.
We are absolutely amazing and have amazing doctors to make life livable
and happy again.}

{doing homework after school}

I picked up the children today from school just as it began to snow.
Then it started with bigger flurries and while we were all sitting down
feasting on cheese and crackers {classic after-school-snack)
it began to really start to snow.
The thick, large, fluffy flakes.

The kind of flakes that make you giddy with excitement and a wave of coziness that
makes you feel calm and peaceful. {me anyway}
Mr. Nielson came up from his office (downstairs)
and made us a fire just as it began to get dark outside.
After reading and reviewing all the children's
homework sheets for the week
Here is what is going on:
Claire: Ancestor report due next month-
we are still unsure of who to choose.

Jane: Indian report also due next month.
She chose the Zuni tribe, who lived at the family
ranch in Bluewater, New Mexico.

Oliver: Preparing for his 100th day in school. Needs to bring 100 edible somethings- we are thinking of bring 100 Ohs!

After I did all I could assist in homework efforts, I let them all touch my belly
to feel lil peanut move, put on their winter boots, gloves, and coats
so they could stick their tongues out and catch snowflakes outside, and then come inside undress down to their undies while enjoying the fire Mr. Nielson made.
I prepared dinner while admiring my busy life- busy to me means healthy.
I am healthy enough to do the things I love most.

I have been thinking a lot about sadness and tragedy. I have had some in my life.
I know right now you { yes you reading this} has some heart-ache and pain.
What is it that pulls us through? Faith, Family, God (love), and the knowledge of
"good things to come".
I know everyday I have challenges, but
my blessings stand around me
like angels guarding my family, and I know no matter the pain and problems,
we are going to make it through.
Time certainly heals, and I am so thankful for that knowledge.

I was searching through my computer looking through old files
and found this drawing Claire created on my computer a few years ago.
{above picture}

I love Claire so much and all her wild creativity and thoughtfulness.
I love Jane- her orange hair, practical ways, and her nose always in a book.
I love Oliver- I love how he takes me with him
on his crazy adventures through his daily playing.
I love Nicholas, he is my pal, my buddy and playmate.
It's amazing how much I rely on that 5 year old.

I love lil peanut. Her existence reminds me how amazing and blessed my life is.
I love my Mr. Nielson. He is my bodyguard and my sweetheart.
I am such a blessed woman. I have everything I need.
I am grateful for trials and the way they shape my life.

I wish I could give back and help everyone who struggles and needs.
I know at my time in need so many came to my rescue.
I pray for you, even if I can't publicly show you.

It's the wonderful weekend!
I am so excited as always- the days slow down a little and I get some time off of cooking.
Actually we took the children out to dinner tonight (ice cream after too) and that will probably count as our weekend outing.
I have been spending the past few days with the talented Matthew Mead.
He and his darling wife Jenny have been helping me decorate my new nursery.
I am thrilled with everything- can't wait to show.

The day I made a Valentine wreath/the Boss turns 72

Today I spent most the morning making a Valentine Day wreath.
I used tissue paper and lots of hot glue.
It was a very fun project and I can see myself making more of these later.

Have I mentioned how nice doing these projects are for my fingers? It hurts so good.

Today I cleaned the house and washed all my babies clothes.
I still can't believe this is really happening to me.
A baby- a cute little girl baby.
The painters dropped off the crib. {I had the crib painted}
It is such a darling aqua color, just as I always wanted it. I can't wait to decorate.
I am already "nesting", and it feels so motherly and feminine. Two of my favorite feelings.

Today I also wrote a note to a car that is parked outside my house.
Not sure who owns the car, but it sort of bugs me that it is there.
Why is it there?
I wrote a note. A very nice-why-are-you-parked-here-note.
I thought about my Mom.
My Mom used to to write notes and put them on cars all the time.
Growing up, my house was so close to BYU, and we had cars lining our
darling tree-lined streets. Kind of annoying.

And that was my day.

Creating

The children were out of school today.
We spent most of the day in our jammies making Valentines.
It was my kind of day.
The weather was so cruel-
It was supposed to snow, but didn't (in the valley).
It was such a let-down.
And then there is the fact that my body is sore-so sore.
My skin hurts and today
all I wanted to do was to lay low and create something with my hands.
It stretches my sore stiff fingers and allows me to be thankful.
Thankful for my children, slow days, and all my working limbs.
Mr. Nielson is leaving on a day trip today to Denver.
I am going to work on my art room, you would be so disappointed to
see what it looks like- I am, it is so overwhelming and so disorganized.

Weekend wrap-up January 13th-15th

The weekend was a joy.

Here is why:

*I made most of my Valentine decorations with my girlies by my side.
*Mr. Nielson came home from his Scout camp-out, and made me a fire in the
fireplace because my bones get so cold.
*Mr. Nielson and I spent all of Saturday preparing Lil peanuts room. Moving furniture, getting the crib painted, got out of storage (and ordered) new baby clothes.

*Oliver played with his new wrist rocket outside, with his pal Nic by his side.
{His goal=shoot a squirrel, even though I doubt he really will ever actually go through with it}

*Family get together Sunday night at my brother Matt's house. It was so much fun to connect with all of my brothers, sisters, spouses and children-
it was pretty much chaos, but still so heavenly.
*SNOW!!! Finally it is stormy in Utah, whew, so excited- I need to ski a few more times before my jacket wont zip up anymore, that is vastly approaching.
*Went on a date with Mr. Nielson- we went to one of our favorite restaurants in Provo.
{Thanks Communal for making date night a pleasure.}
*Read this talk, and loved it.

I was driving in the car today-alone.
Listing to my music really loud. As you may or may not have known already,
I am really really digging Brandon Flower's new album.
So, I was driving listing to his romantic words and thinking
of my own Mr. Nielson, thinking of how much I love him and how
thankful I am that he loves me with all of his heart-and the children too.

So there I was, thinking of Mr. Nielson while driving, and thinking about
earlier that day when he tenderly hugged each of the children good bye for school,
allowed me to sleep in an extra this morning and took over the morning routine.
In my head I saw him patiently pick out the raisins in Nicholas' bowl.
{Sometimes we add it to the morning oatmeal- and Nicholas hates when we do}
I thought about the way he loves me, and treats me like I am the most
beautiful, wonderful and sweetest girl in the world- even when I know I am not.

The image of Mr. Nielson holding our new baby girl in a matter of weeks
gives me that tingly feeling in my stomach. The kind I got when he kissed
me for the first time in my Mom's car 11 1/2 years ago.
It is so attractive to see a man who loves being a father,
who loves caring for his offspring.

What is it about a man's hands? His arms?
I will tell you, those hands and arms hold other hands, hold bodies, creates, and cures.
And a man holding a baby, or child?
Nothing like it...it is pretty much hot, and it turns me on- {if you must know.}
It makes me think of all the men in the world who are fathers--and a father
in my mind are men who are committed to their children and wife, they are involved in family life, they show respect for the women in their lives, and they play with their children, teach,
fear God, and express love vocally and daily.
That is my Mr. Nielson, and I am eternally grateful.

Utah Valley Snow

It finally snowed in the valley.
Not much and not long.
You bet the children were outside playing in it the second they woke up.
Of course Nicholas lasted about 30 minutes.
Claire about 1 hour.
Oliver all afternoon.
Jane all morning/afternoon.

Fairy Godmother Reachel sent Oliver the cutest book for his birthday.

Crumbs

Today I had a list of errands I needed to run.
I wanted to run them since they would help me feel like
I was accomplishing something-
and I do love that feeling.
I dropped lunch off at the school for the children-
Jamba Juice and a roll. Not very nutritious, but given the empty
cupboards at my house, it was as good as I could do.
I picked up myself a Jamba {orange dream machine}
and a piece of bread at the bread store.
I drove, listened to Brandon Flowers, ate my roll, drank my juice and with every bite, bits of bread crumbled down into my shirt.
Specifically my bra {cleavage area}
It was awesome.

Lindsay at Dr. JD's office took these adorable photos of Lil Peanut
{which reminds me, I get to go to another check-up today. The best
thing about my dr's office:
They offer truffles to me every time I leave.}

I looked at the other photos that I keep snug on my refrigerator.
These photos were taken about a year and half ago (pre- new neck)
They remind me that I am so blessed, so happy, and so excited for another Nielson baby.

Oliver turned 7

Weekend puppets

It is the weekend...yay!
I finally bought my 2012 desk calendar- a simple notebook type
where I can write plans and special dates.
My goal this year-just like last year is to remember all of my loved ones birthdays.
So far I am about 3 birthdays late- I'll keep working on that.

I made these fun puppets with my girls over Christmas break.
They are downloaded from Sarah Jane Studios.
If you haven't been to her site yet, you need too, you will go nuts.
{Her fabric is adorable.}

I can't seem to put them away with all the other Christmas decorations,
we are having too much fun with them.
{I am also loving this lovely print for Valentines day}

Claire got a laminator for Christmas.

We spent hours laminating the puppets and cutting them out.
As a child, I was enamored with laminators. I still am.
While the girls laminated the puppets I laminated my recipes and other
important documents.

Here is on my weekend list:
-Get all better
-Finish putting away all my Christmas decorations
-Get out Valentines deco?
-De-junk the girls room
-Knit lil peanuts blessing blanket -{this is an ongoing project}
-Begin organizing office.
-See a movie

Happy New Year {party}

Happy New Year 2012!

{My siblings-- minus Courtney, Chris, Steve and Suze...sniff,sniff}

My brother Andrew {nickname Andre} and I {nickname baboon}
annually hold a New Year's Party for our siblings.
This year we switched up the party a little bit and decided to
have a New Year's Eve breakfast.
It turned out darling.

I bought like 30 dozen bacon slices.
I have never cooked bacon in my life.
As some of you may know, we don't eat meat around these parts.
I am pretty sure all the bacon smoke that I inhaled made me deathly ill.
I still think about bacon and the taste of throw up lingers in my mouth.

Other than that, the party was a dandy.
We also all wrote our goals for the year and reviewed how we did last year.
Some of us kept quite opening up what we had wrote last year,
some of us laughed at what we wrote, and some of us cried with joy-
(My goal was to get the OK for a new baby!}

I love my family.

My life was so happy as a child- mostly because of my siblings.
There was always someone around, someone to play with or bug.
I am grateful for my knowledge of eternal families.
God never lets us down, and promises us with happiness and peace if we
choose the right path.
Thanks to my wonderful parents who sacrificed, loved, and taught us.
I know it is/was not easy, but worth it.
Amen.

Veins and Doctors

This is Nie writing from bed. Sick. Still.

Today Mr. Nielson, Nicholas and I piled into the truck headed to see Dr. J.
Dr. J. is one of the best plastic surgeons and I am so pleased he
lives in my state in so close to me.
{I also have another Dr. J- he is my OB-GYN, I will call him Dr. JD. He is pretty cool too.}

Dr. J put that ultra-sound sticky blue goo all over my body looking for veins.
Since I was burned all over my body, veins are difficult to come by.
They were replaced by scar tissue, thus it is hard to find them.

I am concerned that when I go into labor they will need IV access and wont be able to find it.
I have had this happen before, and everyone thinks they can find that magical vein...no one can.
It hurts and I end up with bruises and tears.
Oh, and then I become scared of pain- like, super scared.

But today, Dr. J found a bunch of veins and says he feels pretty confident in getting something. The best part about that is, I believe him and I know I am going to be OK.

One time I told Dr. J that I really wanted to have a baby. He looked at me and
asked me why I was asking him, he said I should probably talk to
my husband about that one.
Right.

I have been so sick. It hit me on New Years Eve.
I went to bed,
threw up about 35 times, sore throat, and now a nasty cough.
That means I lay in my bed and feel bad for myself and my family.
On the other hand, I have been really enjoying everything on Oh Happy Day blog.
Jordan, you are a genius and I wish I could come visit you in Paris.

Oliver Christian turns 7 today.

Seven special things you should know about the birthday boy:

1. If he brings you rope, you tie it in a coil and attach it to his belt loop.
2. If he brings you an empty sack, you put penny's inside it for his treasure.
3. If he brings you a bandanna, you tie it over his face so he can be a bad guy.
4. If he brings you a white bandanna, you tie it around his neck like Indiana Jones.
5. If Ollie brings you his gun he wants you to tie it to his belt.
6. If Ollie gets to choose dinner he will inevitably choose McDonald's,
then we will say no- and then he will always go for Indian food.
7. If Ollie is walking around the house with his backpack on, he is
pretending he is one of the Scout boys that Mr. Nielson take camping.

Nielson Christmas break photos #5- Christmas Morning

The children awoke around 7:30, we ate cereal, Mr. Nielson made a fire,

we looked at what Mr. Claus brought and then off to 9:00 church.

Coming home from church we all changed back into our pajamas,

ate french toast and opened up presents under the tree.

It was a beautiful day.

Have a safe and happy New Years Eve.

I took the children to the grocery store today to get a few items,

as well as some fireworks to celebrate the new year.

We saw the fireworks and the man who assisted me in selecting the right

one for me gave me a little fire safety course before purchasing them.

I always feel stupid when people do that- I feel like I am a little aware of that stuff.

{We let balloons off today where Jimmy is buried.

It was bitter-sweet. The children are still sad.

I feel heart-broken today.

Life is hard, and making choices sometimes seem harder- you know?}

Jimmy Nielson

I made a very hard decision today.

We put our 11 year old dog Jimmy down.

It was such a heart breaker- still is.

The children took it hard and Mr. Nielson worse.

I am feeling sick.

Jimmy was with Mr. Nielson and I before we were even married.

He lived through 4 pregnancies, 5 moves, and a plane crash for heavens sake!

I keep telling the children, and myself that we will someday see Jimmy again,

we believe that too.

We know he is happy where he is- sniffing the other dogs- my dog growing up, {Chucka,}

brothers and sisters dogs {Chief 1 & 2, Kenna, Joe, Scout, Sofie, Ralph, Duchess, Sig, Andrew's dog (forgot his name), and others. It seriously is comforting to know.

Jimmy is buried up at our lot which will someday house our future.

He will stay close, and we will visit him faithfully.

Tomorrow we will let off balloons where he lays.

There is something to say about a loyal dog.

A dog who bring happiness and joy to a family.

That was Jimmy.

Paint Louis

We spent the day with the adorable missionaries who are leaving for home
tomorrow. They return home to their families and friends
who, for two whole years have supported, prayed for, and waited to see them.
These boys are so good and cute, and have such a bright future ahead.

The Pres (my Dad) made them all ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch,
after we met at the graffiti wall in the heart of St. Louis- or as others
call it "Paint Louis". A pretty cool {slightly scary} spot.

We also visited the amazing arch, where while watching a movie how the arch was made,
I dropped my wallet somewhere in my seat between the part where the arch was being constructed in 1962, and 1963 and then forgot it completely.
Then, after I realized it was missing, we spent the next hour tracking it down.
Mr. Nielson found it, I jumped on him with excitement, bought a few arch paraphernalia key-chains etc from the gift shop, had dinner, and a sweet little
fireside with the departing missionaries.

I know a few things for certain today:
I love my children.
My parents are amazing.
I love smoked cheddar.
The story of Lewis and Clark is inspiring.
I'd rather NOT wear clothes-well, except for sweats.
It's always fun waking up in the morning with Mr. Nielson right there.
The church is true.

Mr. Nielson and I were married eleven years ago today.
We are celebrating today.

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

This year for Christmas, my children and I made snow globes.
I love giving and getting handmade gifts, so I hope this make some little people happy.

They were very charming to make.
My children and I created cozy little scenes with plastic toys, animals,
and trees. We used glitter and old jam jars we've been saving for months.

Of course I made a bunch for myself to decorate around the house, and the children
to put them in their rooms.
I love this time of year.

{Remembering this moment today. Nicholas 5 months March 2007}

Around 8:45 am Nicholas and I sit on the couch after all the children have left for school.
We take a deep breath, drink orange juice eat oatmeal on the couch-
and sometimes we read books but
most the time he wants to watch "tartoons".

I LOVE these slow mornings with this little man of mine.
Wednesday's are especially magical because the garbage man comes.
Nicholas runs outside with the first sound of the truck.
Then he watches and observes-usually without shoes on.

I love these mothering moments. I love when I can watch and observe my child
growing and experiencing life everyday.

Even when I feel achy and sore I have gratitude in my heart and I know
that whatever I do- and sometimes its just hanging out on the couch-
is time with with the ones I so love and adore.
Each day, as nerdy as it sounds, is a gift.
Time is a gift.
Children are a gift.
And, being a mother is a gift.

Remembering harder times...

I was thinking about the time I was in the hospital for Christmas.
My accident still so fresh,{4 1/2 months old} and I was so very weak.
I was sad and disappointed.
I was in constant pain and tears.
It hardly felt like Christmas to me.
I missed my children.

I missed smelling their hair when I hugged them, clipping their nails,
seeing their morning eyes when I fed them breakfast.
I missed the simple; showers, touching, brushing my teeth, stretching, and smiling.
I had the faith that I was going to get better, I knew there was light shinning
before me, but I couldn't stop wishing for the past. It was dragging me down and making it
almost impossible to get better.

Then my children came to visit for the first time in almost 5 months,
and none of them recognized me.
Jane took it the worst.
I felt guilty, ugly, and worst of all-a bad mother.
The job I had wanted to become all my life-a mother, was being
taken away from me, and that is when I decided I had nothing left to live for.
Then I said a prayer that literally lasted almost 2 hours.
Constant pleading, asking, bargaining- all I wanted was to be a mother again.
I'd do anything!!

Lighting didn't strike my hospital room and angels didn't
appear blowing trumpets.
I just felt peace. It was warm, comforting, and soft.
I was relived. I knew that life wouldn't change over night,
but I was promised I would be happy and I'd see
progress everyday in some way or another.

As long as I could remember and reflect on that feeling I had in my
dark hospital bed with tears streaming down my checks,
I knew everything would be just fine.

Jane eventually looked at me-
I started doing yoga again stretching and reaching-
I can brush my own teeth {and children's if I need too}
I can do my own hair-
Put make-up on-
I can pull my pants up, go to the bathroom by myself-
Kneel down to pray-
Feed my family, and
I smile every single day- because there is always something to smile about.
And now I have life growing healthy inside me.

My feel so swollen and I still so stiff, this is about all
the "fun" we had those days. }

Christmas blessings

Its officially Christmas in the Nielson home.
My children call to be picked up from school in the afternoon.
I am so eager to pick them up, bring them home, and shut the door.
I just want them home.
I want them to feel comfortable and safe and with me-
not that they are in any harm elsewhere,
but I just like knowing where they are and what they are doing.

The children helped me decorate for the Holidays.

Each child has a personal touch in a corner or somewhere in our home.
They are so proud- and I am too!

My body is super exhausted all the time,
and my stomach is stretching bigger and bigger.
As you may or may not know, burns don't stretch, so the parts of my
stomach where I was burned hurt. Its becoming uncomfortable and itchy.
I keep telling myself I can do this- I have been through far worse.
Besides, I get something out of this- not just bandages and pain:
A baby.
I am thrilled. I feel so blessed and grateful everyday.
I truly am a blessed woman with an amazing family and body.

Christmas time is here

Happy December!

Today the family piled in the truck bound for our Christmas tree.

Since I grew up in home where we frequently got flocked trees and Mr. Nielson did not,
we needed to exercise a little marital compromise.
Last year our main living room tree was fat and white.
This year it is a skinnier version and green. I am still trying to get used to it.
But, I got a small flocked tree that the children get to
decorate and put up their homemade ornaments they made.

I am so in love this time of the year.
I love the glitter, Christmas music, snow, and the general magical, happy feeling
we all have during this time of year.
I drove in the car with my family and said a few silent prayers of thanksgiving.
I am so SO thankful to be alive. I am enjoying so much goodness and
making so many wonderful memories with my children.
This truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

Still, I can't help but think of those of you who are sad or struggling.
Those of you (or your loved ones) who are sick, in the hospital or maybe
who passed on. My heart goes out to you. I feel your pain. I wish there
was something I could do to help.
My prayers and thoughts coming your way!

My prince turned 33 yesterday.
I spent a lovely day with him and later surprised him with
his own private cooking lessons in our home.

Secretly, Mr. Nielson wishes he was a chef.
Mr. Nielson cries watching Ratatouille.
Seriously.

Taylor who is head chef at Pizzeria 712
{and one of the best restaurants in Utah}
came to our home and the cooked up delicious vegetable soup
-which we enjoyed for dinner.
Thank you Taylor for coming to our home and teaching Mr. Nielson
more about what he loves and so enjoys.

My Thanksgiving Post

Why I am thankful this year:

I am especially grateful for bodies. I don’t care what shape mine is in, I am grateful for a body to enjoy earthy experiences.

I am so thankful I have the amazing mantle as Mother of my family and thankful my hands can still serve my children and husband. I am indeed grateful for the insight I was given during some of the hardest times of my life. Those insights, though hard, have given me the strength I need daily, to remind me of what is most important.

Of course I am sooooooooo grateful for a new baby in the spring. The Lord loves me. That is evident.

I am thankful for the rare privilege I have been given to have an opportunity for a platform through

media and other sources to share what I believe.

Last week my favorite toy store, Blickenstaff's invited my family to the amazing
Shops at the Riverwoods for their annual Christmas lighting.
It was beautiful and sooo magical.

The children oohed and ahhed in Blickenstaff's and after
we had dinner at La Jolla Groves.
My mouth is still watering over the amazing molten chocolate cake-
oh, and the bread and cheeses.
Delicious.

Then we met the talented Jon Schmidt-
It was a very wonderful night indeed.

The Nielson family is on our way to Arizona for Thanksgiving.

We are so excited to go "Over the river and through the woods".
Or in our case "Over the Indian Res and into the desert".
I have packed the girls with their knitting and other sewing projects they
can do in the car for the 10 hour drive.

Nutcracker Mice

Tonight Mr. Nielson and I took Nicholas and Ollie to see Claine preform in the Nutcracker.
The girls have been practicing for their first ever ballet performance
for months now.
They could hardly sleep last night they were so excited.

I cried through the whole thing.
I cried because I LOVE the Nutcracker- I love the ballet period.
It is amazing the way the the music stirs my soul and watching the dancers gets my heart.
They are strong, graceful, elegant, and amazing.
I wish my body were able to dance like that.
I wish my legs were strong and smooth-my arms flawless-free from scars and burns.
But, to see my girls dance made me feel like I have all of that, and more.

I sat close to Ollie who was memorized by the show.
Defiantly his first Nutcracker experience.
Top 3 favorite things he whispered to me during the performance:
1. They all have snuggies.
2. Mom, your beautiful- prettier than her, and her, and her.
3. I am going to have really good dreams tonight after watching all those girls.

My little girls were pretty cute, I might add.

Dear Mr. Nielson,
I would love ballet season tickets for Christmas
Love, your wifey.

I am exercising regularly again- hiking the Y.
Feels so good.

Claire spends every last free minute making awesome photos on my computer.

This is why I love being a mother to small children.

Because they still kiss me on the lips.

Today we took our family Christmas photos.
They turned out beautiful, thanks to Justin Hackworth
and Mr. Nielson who made my Christmas photo scheme work.
I always have these ornate ideas to do or create and
Mr. Nielson is so sweet to support me and even tell me how genius
I am when its all over.

Nielson Vandal

{111111-a special day indeed}

This morning after Mr. Nielson dropped the children off at school,
I came into the kitchen to clean up cheerio bowls, orange juice cups-
and anything else the children left on the
dining room table before the mad rush out the door.
There sat the Wall Street Journal {our daily morning read}
on the table. I looked at the headlines and soon noticed every single
face had a beards, mustache, or a unibrows.
I laughed, turned the page as this vandalism continued page after page.

I knew it was the hand of Oliver Christian- I was right.
Turns out, Oliver skipped breakfast to vandalize the morning paper.
As a result around 10:20, Ollie's teacher called and said Ollie felt like he was going
to throw up. I picked him up. I asked if he felt hungry.
Of course he did, he skipped breakfast using his artistic skills on my pape.
He ate his lunch, and spent the rest of the day playing outside with Nic.

These simple moments make Motherhood satisfying and unique.
I am so thankful for my children with their bright minds and adorable little quarks-

'Girls Night Out' sponsored by Intermountian Healthcare}

Last August, I was lucky to have been invited by Intermountian Healthcare,
as a guest speaker at their "Girls Night Out" evening.
I spoke about my recovery and how grateful I am for good
health care professionals who help me on a daily basis.
Now, they have a new cool facebook page/group for Mothers
to connect and ask medical and health related questions.
Your questions will be answered by a doctor or a nurse.

Ask about your children, your pregnancy or whatever you have in mind.
They also are responding to you via video. Here.

This facebook page has a community of mothers that share stories and experiences.
They are very active, engaged, and quick to help each other.

1. I am writing a book due out in Spring 2012. I spend a lot of time on the computer.
2. I am already listening to Christmas music...pretty much all day long, and in the car.
3. I am so excited to ski this year, it can't come soon enough!!! SNOW MORE PLEASE!!
4. I made all my children write their Christmas lists last night- I want to get it done.
5. Trying to get over my pregnancy nausea.
6. My stomach skin is beginning to hurt. It is stretching and itching. Lil peanut is growing!
7. The family will be in Arizona for Thanksgiving-wish the Oranges were ready.
8. We will also be in St. Louis a few days before Christmas.
9. Think my boys in boxer shorts are the cutest things ever.
10. Excited to see my girlies dance in the Nutcracker this year!!

Balloon wishes

Claire who turned 10 last month let her balloons off (with wishes inside).
We didn't have time to let them go on her birthday,
so the balloons stay tied to the mailbox until
minutes before trick-or-treating (in her Halloween costume).

2nd Annual Madsen Bike Rally Review

(if you have a Madsen bike or not),
You really missed out on a fabulous bike rally.
We had soooooo much fun, never ending Krispy Kreme Doughnuts,
delicious apple cider, hot chocolate, and the coolest tee-shirts.
Plus, Mr. Madsen gave away free cargo bikes to anyone who came.*

Yes, its true. In 2005, I asked some of our best friends:
Andrew and Reachel Bagley to accept this distinguished honor.

I fully expected when Reachel had her own children,
she would be relived of her duties.
But no.
Every year on my children's birthday's, a package arrives.
Here was Claire's birthday card this year along with this.

My name is Margaret Murtagh and I would love to have the bike, but not for me, for my sister Eileen. I don’t know what I would do without my sister Eileen. I run a nursery school and she works for me full time, and she is a full time mom to her four boys, Andrew, Ian, Aidan and Colin. She is really always there for everyone. Recently, one of our friends who is seriously ill, lost her husband suddenly and left her with two little boys. My sister has organized a weekly fundraiser at the weekly football games and has raised thousands of dollars over a short period of time to help Kara and her boys. I honestly don’t know how she does it. I would love her to have the bike, because the one thing she loves to do with her boys is going bike riding. When we go away in the summer, I would love for her to have the bike so she could not only enjoy biking with her boys, but also be able to carry all the things she needs to get down to the beach every day. My sister is my heart, and I would love for her to win the bike.

Yesterday I made pasta with butternut squash.
I tasted like we were eating the innards of our carved pumpkins.
My children gobbled it up, I on the other hand did not. Yuck.
I think 'lil peanut hates squash.
Every night at the dinner table we go around the table and ask the children
what their favorite part of the day was.
Here is the run down:

I mentioned how happy I was that we found the piano key.
{The key was lost for months- the piano locked}
I played the piano today stretching my fingers and moving them.
I may only know a few tunes on our piano, but I am so grateful
for the therapy it provides.
I will keep playing those few tunes (heart and soul)
everyday, I know my fingers are thanking me-even if it hurts.

After dinner we held our FHE {because Monday night was Halloween}.
It was a beautiful evening.
The children were quite and listened.
It was a miracle, really.
I felt the Spirit strongly and I am pretty sure our children did too.
Once and awhile our FHE's actually turn out-and when it happens,
it is so powerful.

Tomorrow I am announcing the Madsen Cargo bike winner. {we call it a bucket bike}

Guess what-while I did that, it was sleeting (snowing, raining)
and I was listening to Christmas music.

8:25: Drop off the children at school- costumes packed.
{except Ollie's}

1:30: Elementary school Costume parade.
3:30: Jamba Juice for extra energy.

4:30: Visit to Grandma Marion {after school}

5:30 Family Halloween photo session {by Justin Hackworth}

6:00: Pumpkin carving

6:15: Traditional dinner soup in pumpkin soup bowls.

7:30: Pack up the children {and Jimmy who was the headless horseman horse}
for trick-or-treating.

9:00: In the house, sorting out treats on the floor.

10:10: Children in bed for a few hours and now I am watching 'Halloween 4'- its pretty creepy, and I will only allow myself one spooky movie a year. This is it.

{My Halloween report tomorrow}

Claire turned ten.
I can't get over that.

Claire made me a mother.
I had always wanted to be a mother.
Shorty after Claire was born, Christian would come home from
a long day of school and work.
He'd give me a quick kiss then walk over to wherever Claire was and
pick her up and cradle her in his jacket.
He'd hold her like that until dinner was ready.

I may be Claire's mother, but she has taught me amazing things in these last 10 years.
I will always be grateful for her and this tender experience I am having.

Claire wanted to make cupcakes for her birthday party.
I went to local Blickenstaff's for candy to decorate the cupcakes.
Of course our cupcakes came from The Sweet Tooth Fairy.

Today is Claire Elizabeth's 10th birthday.

takes all the children to a movie- (I LOVE that man)
